Another method of casting multiple iterations of a spell is by creating a single spell circle, then slapping it with the palm of the hand. A witch can also create additional spell circles from their existing active circle by doing a pulling apart gesture, which causes the active circle to briefly stretch before forming an exact copy. The circle can be drawn with a fingertip, a sweeping gesture of the hands, a tracing motion with the feet, a training wand, or the end of a witch's staff. However, this version of retracing circles appears to be rather difficult and requires great focus in maintaining, suggesting it is an advanced method. This is usually done with two hands so as to not break the circle and has been shown to be possible with multiple circles at once, such as three, and the fingers need not necessarily trace the active spell circle themselves, merely make repeated circular gestures in the air in front of the caster. Some spells, such as certain illusion spells shown by Gus, require the circle to be repeatedly retraced, either to charge up the spell before casting or in order to maintain the spell. The size of the circle drawn determines the power of the spell the larger the spell circle, the more powerful the spell. They just channel their own magic and intent through the circle, rather than relying on glyph-combinations to cast magic. To create a spell circle, a witch simply needs to draw a glowing circle in the air, from which the desired spell is cast.

It's similar to the circle that witches use. You have to intend an action for the glyph to work, which is how Luz can hold a bunch of them and not have them all activate at once. Part of activating a Glyph isn't just physically touching it, but it also depends on your will. It's why Luz can activate glyphs outside of it, even if they fail because there's nothing to direct. Glyphs direct the ambient magic of the boiling isles, and seem to be 'primed' when drawn there. And the doesn't explain how a character who can't actually channel magic turns them on by touching them, or how she can apparently use them from a distance. I don't think it's just drawing ambient magic from the air to "turn it on", because then every time someone draws the glyph it would atomically activate. There are even moments when Luz doesn't have to touch the glyphs to activate them, like once she used another person's staff and activated them from a distance to make a bunch of explosions. But Luz doesn't have a bile sac, so she can't channel magic into it. So, there are several times when Luz draws a glyph, it does nothing, and only activates on touch, seeming to imply someone has to channel magic into them.

The thing is.what exactly makes a glyph "turn on"? You can even combine glyphs to make new spells, with there seemingly being no limit. Essentially, in either nature or even in spells themselves, there are hidden glyphs inside them, and by drawing those glyphs, you can recreate the spells or do something similar.

However, the MC of the show, Luz, discovered a different way to use magic. Okay, so the main magic system in the Owl House essentially works by someone drawing a circle in the air, with either their own fingers or other objects, and then, they use the magical energy inside them, stored in an organ called a bile sac, to cast a spell.
